About

My name is Savannah

I never set out to be an artist—it’s something that found me. My father, an artist himself, played a big role in shaping my creative path. He gave me my first camera, and that simple gift led me to a creative journey I never expected. In high school, I spent most of my time in band, but when I finally took an art class, I realized I saw the world differently than others. My teacher encouraged me to explore new mediums—oil painting, charcoal, and beyond—but photography became my medium of choice. It allowed me to capture not just images, but emotions, stories, and the essence of a moment.

My work doesn’t fit into a single category, and I like it that way. It’s bold, vibrant, and rooted in culture, nature, and human connection. As a First American artist, my culture deeply influences my creative process. The buffalo holds significance in my grandmother’s clan, and I often find myself drawn to capturing them, alongside the landscapes and powwows that celebrate identity and tradition. Whether through photography, ledger art, or mixed media, I want to highlight the beauty in details that often go unnoticed.

I don’t create art to be a mystery—I want people to feel a sense of calm when they view my work. My goal is to offer a fresh perspective, bringing attention to textures, moments, and stories that might otherwise be overlooked. Whether it’s the intricate beadwork of a powwow regalia, the powerful presence of a buffalo, or the quiet beauty of a landscape, I want my work to feel both familiar and new.

One of my proudest achievements has been exhibiting my artwork alongside my father. Sharing gallery space with him was a full-circle moment, honoring the creative influence he’s had on me. Another highlight was speaking about an art installation I created, sharing the story behind my work and its deeper meaning. Beyond recognition, simply being able to sustain myself as an artist is something I’m incredibly proud of.

People can find my artwork both locally and online. I have a studio where I display my portrait work, and my pieces are also available on my website and social media platforms. Whether in person or online, I love sharing my work with those who connect with it.
